Black Mustard Seeds (Rai)


Mustards believed to have originated to Asia Minor and the Middle East but these days cultivated as one of the main commercial crop in India, Canada and China. It gives a pungent flavour to food. In India, it is used as a Tadka in a dish and very popular as one of the cooking spice. It is added to curry pastes, pickles, vegetable dishes, sauces, and stews. The black mustard seed contains compounds that help to fight cancer and also used for causing vomiting.
